To reduce(simplify) a fraction:

  1. Find the prime factors of the numerator and denominator.
  2. Divide the numerator and denominator by all the prime factors they have in common.

Example

Simplify:
$ \frac{300}{20000} $

Write the numerator and denominator as products of their prime factors:
= $ \frac{2*2*3*5*5}{2*2*2*2*2*5*5*5*5} $

The common prime factors are 2, 2, 5 and 5. Divide numerator and denominator by 2*2*5*5:
= $ \frac{3}{2*2*2*5*5} $

Simplify the denominator:
= $ \frac{3}{200} $

Harder example

Simplify:
$ \frac{781}{923} $
Write the numerator and denominator as products of their prime factors:
=$ \frac{11*71}{13*71} $ The common prime factor is 71. Divide numerator and demominator by 71.
=$ \frac{11}{13} $
