Students studying mathematics in high school spend a large portion of their time working out particular examples while university students devote much of their energy to developing abstract theories in order to consider many particular examples at the same time from one general viewpoint. The ability to solve particular problems and to generalize one's ideas are fundamental tools that all mathematicians frequently use. Unfortunately, high school students who excel solving the particular problems found in many high school level textbooks often struggle to adapt to college-level mathematics coures.
After working with many frustrated college students, who used to like doing math, some famous mathematicians have written books to bridge the gap between high school and college level mathematics. In this wikia we will study some of them. In particular we will focus on Richard Courant.
