P.E.M.D.A.S is a math lesson usually taught between the 4th and 6th grades in the United States. It pertains to the order or precedence of mathematical evaluation - evaluate parentheses first or with most importance, and subtract last or with least importance.
- P = evaluate Parentheses
- E = evaluate Exponents
- M = Mutiply
- D = Divide
- A = Add
- S = Subtract
When the evaluation are only Add & Subtract or Multiply & divide, the parts will be evaluated form left to right.
Examples of Correct P.E.M.D.A.S usage[]
Example 1: 2*5+4*3[]
- by P.E.M.D.A.S , Multiply is first , so we evaluate 2*5 and 4*3 , which equals to 10 and 12
- Evaluation: 10+12
- Next is Addtion,Starting from left to right.
- Final value:24
- last Evaluation: ((2^2+2)*1/2)-3
- First do the parentheses 2^2=4+2=6
- next multiply then divide so 6*1=6/2=3
- To end subtract so 3-3=0
- Final value:24
- let's do it again
- ((2^2+2)*1/2)-3
- ((4+2)*1/2)-3
- (6*1/2)-3
- (6/2)-3
- 3-3
