A linear functional or covector is a linear transformation from a vector space V to a scalar field. The scalar for a given vector in the space is the inner product of the vector with the functional. Another way to represent linear functionals is to multiply the matrix of column vectors with the matrix of functional row vectors. The set of all linear functionals for a vector space forms another vector space called the dual space, represented as V'.
